Appropriations: Francis Bacon
Francis Bacon, Monaco and French Culture was presented at the Grimaldi Forum Monaco in 2016. The exhibition included his last painting, “Study of a Bull,” which is in a private collection and had not been previously displayed publicly.
The photograph with the article included an installation view. When I zoomed in on “Study of a Bull” to see it more clearly, I was struck by how the photographer had captured with “Study of a Bull” (under glass) the reflected image of a triptych hanging on an adjacent wall. I appropriated the “Study of a Bull” overlaid with the image reflected in its protective glass.
